We are a group of Silver Mesa parents who want what is best for our school staff, teachers and students. We believe this can be achieved through a PTO. The district has a policy allowing parents a vote. We first must complete a Notice of Intent and petition and then we will be allowed a vote. This blog will help educate, inform and unite through this process. Keep updated on what is going on here. UPDATE: You should have received a ballot in the mail. If you didn't and want to vote, contact the district. We encourage everyone to study both organizations and vote for the group they believe best represents their ideals.

All-Inclusive

I'm going to use the next few posts to explain further why some parents are interested in exploring the option of a PTO. As always feel free to ask questions or comment. Also, you can let us know if there is a topic you would like us to address.

All-Inclusive-
The great thing about a PTO is that it is all-inclusive. Every parent and staff at the school is considered a member. That means any parent and staff can vote and ratify budgets. They can also volunteer in any way they want. Any interested parent could be the president of the PTO or could volunteer on a committee. Parents can be as involved (or uninvolved :)) as they want. Not all parents want to have to join (pay for a membership) to have the opportunity to volunteer. They believe parents should be able to volunteer however they want without joining an organization they don't necessarily agree with (more about this on a future post).
