We are a group of Silver Mesa parents who want what is best for our school staff, teachers and students. We believe this can be achieved through a PTO. The district has a policy allowing parents a vote. We first must complete a Notice of Intent and petition and then we will be allowed a vote. This blog will help educate, inform and unite through this process. Keep updated on what is going on here. UPDATE: You should have received a ballot in the mail. If you didn't and want to vote, contact the district. We encourage everyone to study both organizations and vote for the group they believe best represents their ideals.

Reflections

Reflections is a PTA program. What happens if we change to a PTO? If we change to a PTO we would loose the Reflections program. For some this doesn't matter, for others Reflections is a very important program. Some schools who have a PTO have created their own type of reflections program. The rules for the PTA's Reflections are fairly strict and if your student doesn't fill out their form correctly or if their submission is not exactly within the rules then it gets thrown out. When creating our own program we could encourage every student to participate by making it easy to submit creations. The point isn't for it to be difficult to participate. The point is for students to use their creativity and imagination and to have the opportunity to participate in a creative competition. Some schools have a night where families can go to the school to see submissions and watch those students who have completed a dance, song, etc. What a fun way to create unity in the school and share our talents!
