We are a group of Silver Mesa parents who want what is best for our school staff, teachers and students. We believe this can be achieved through a PTO. The district has a policy allowing parents a vote. We first must complete a Notice of Intent and petition and then we will be allowed a vote. This blog will help educate, inform and unite through this process. Keep updated on what is going on here. UPDATE: You should have received a ballot in the mail. If you didn't and want to vote, contact the district. We encourage everyone to study both organizations and vote for the group they believe best represents their ideals.

What about the programs???

Several people have asked what will happen to all the programs we currently have if we switch to a PTO. The answer is
that all the programs will stay with the exception of Reflections. We have a great alternative to Reflections, which would make it easier for kids to participate. Read more about the alternative program here. A PTO could have all the same events and programs that the school currently has, like:
  • bike rodeo
  • book fair
  • movie nights
  • red ribbon week
  • spirit nights
  • masterpiece art
  • masterpiece music
  • science fair
  • family night(s)
  • back to school night
  • white ribbon week
  • junior achievement
  • teacher appreciation
  • field trips
  • etc.
What happens to the National PTA advocacy if we switch to a PTO? Nothing... it will continue. Our school and kids will still get all the benefits of One Voice if wE areally a PTO school. To quote the PTA, "Every child, one voice—A voice for EVERY child whether or not their parent is a member of PTA...". Our school as well as all the thousands of schools that are PTO schools will still get the benefits of the National PTA advocacy.
