We are a group of Silver Mesa parents who want what is best for our school staff, teachers and students. We believe this can be achieved through a PTO. The district has a policy allowing parents a vote. We first must complete a Notice of Intent and petition and then we will be allowed a vote. This blog will help educate, inform and unite through this process. Keep updated on what is going on here. UPDATE: You should have received a ballot in the mail. If you didn't and want to vote, contact the district. We encourage everyone to study both organizations and vote for the group they believe best represents their ideals.

Isn't Broken???

Why consider changing to a PTO if the PTA isn’t broken?

I’ve heard several parents ask this thoughtful question. It’s true
that the parent volunteers have done a good job leading the parent organization at our school this year. The ideal vision of the Silver Mesa United campaign suggests that those same parent volunteers would be doing exactly the same work for our school as a member of an independent parent organization (PTO) as they have been as a member of the PTA.

In other words, the day-to-day operations of a PTO and a PTA are virtually the same on a school level. The differences are more subtle and would go mostly unnoticed by the majority of parents, and even volunteers. It’s important to note also, that the local, State and Nation PTA organizations would continue
on exactly the same as they are now without our money, and we could use that money for our kids!

Parents who choose to continue to support the lobbying efforts of the PTA can donate your $5 directly to them, keeping an extra $1,000 at our school to benefit OUR KIDS directly.
